Phyllis J. Jones Memorial Scholarship for Head Start Graduates- October 29, 2007
Phyllis J. Jones served as the national conference chairperson for NHSA’s 1984 conference in Kansas City, Missouri, and as NHSA president in 86-87.  She was killed in an automobile accident in Nov.89.  Because of her tremendous contribution to NHSA, two scholarships were created in her honor in 1990.
Criteria: Applicant must be a former student and graduate of Head Start, the local program must be a member of NHSA, or the applicant must be an individual member of NHSA, must prove acceptance or enrollment in an institution of higher learning, 3 letters of reference and all questions must be answered.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards – October 31, 2007

Club Z! Annual Achievement Award – Nov.16, 2007

The club Z Annual Achievement Award allows students to showcase their talents and abilities for a chance to win cash and cool prizes for school!  So whether they’ve show strong character in the classroom, overcome obstacles at school, shown leadership among their peers, or simply improved since the beginning of the year, teachers, nominate your students or encourage them to apply online.



Maine Schools of Nursing Scholarship-Spring Semester Dec 1 &  Fall Semester is July 1
Three $1,000 scholarships to Maine residents who will be attending an accredited nursing program in Maine.  Criteria: *Maine resident *GPA equivalent to a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale * cover letter * 3 original letters of recommendation * must be enrolled in six credit hours or more per semester to be considered *must be enrolled in an accredited nursing associates or bachelors degree or a higher program * must enclose verification of educational institute enrollment in the form of a letter or statement from the Registrar’s office.

Mensa Education & Research Foundation – January 15, 2008

Students who will be enrolled in an accredited US institution of post-secondary education for the fall term of 2008 are eligible to apply for awards of up to $1,000.  For an entry form with essay rules, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) postmarked by December 31, 2007 to:

Maine Section of the American Society of Civil Engineering – January 31, 2008
Two $2000 scholarships for two outstanding high school seniors who plan a career in civil engineering.  The recipients will be selected based on: academic performance in high school, participation in extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and statement of interest in civil engineering.  Applicants must be Maine residents.





The Barking Foundation – Feb. 15, 2008
Is a private, non-profit foundation that provides grants for the accredited undergraduate education of meritorious State of Maine residents, based on their demonstrated financial need.  Criteria:  Applications typed or legibly handwritten, no e-mail or fax, incomplete applications will not be accepted, a copy of the student aid report (SAR) or the free application for federal student air (FAFSA) application.

Burger King Scholars Program – Feb. 15, 2008

2008 Bob Elliot-WMTW-TV 8 Journalism Scholarship- March 24, 2008

The scholarship awards $1500 to one graduating high school senior within the WMTW-TV 8 viewing area who plans to major in journalism, communications or a related area of study.  This scholarship is a one-time-only grant.

American Lung Association of Maine Golf Privilege Card Scholarship-April 1, 2008
(3) $500 scholarships are awarded to graduating Maine high school seniors.  Scholarships are awarded based on essay question answer, references and review of completed application.  All applicants will be notified of their results in mid April.
Criteria:* citizen of US and permanent resident of the State of Maine
*Graduate 2008 * entering the first year of Post-High School education or training in fall 2008.  Applicant must show evidence of acceptance into an accredited college or vocational tech. school * Involved in the game of golf either as a player, member of a golf team or employee of a golf course. * Pursuing further education in a health education/health promotion or environmental related field * a non-tobacco user.

The Phillips Memorial Scholarship – May 1, 2008

This fund offers renewable, 4-year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, a desire to make a meaningful contribution to society, good character, and a strong work ethic.

Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association – July 15, 2008
Annual scholarship to deserving women who have participated in some aspect of the game of golf, and are planning to continue their education beyond high school.  Consideration will be given to the applicant’s involvement in golf as well her academic achievements and extra-curricular activities.  The applicant should live within the southern Maine area which includes all of York, Cumberland, Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties, a portion of Oxford County including Bethel and points south, a portion of Kennebec County including Litchfield and points south, and the towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor in Lincoln County.
