Maine Schools of Nursing Scholarship-Spring Semester Dec 1 & Fall Semester is July 1
Three $1,000 scholarships to Maine residents who will be attending an accredited nursing program in Maine. Criteria: *Maine resident *GPA equivalent to a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale * cover letter * 3 original letters of recommendation * must be enrolled in six credit hours or more per semester to be considered *must be enrolled in an accredited nursing associates or bachelors degree or a higher program * must enclose verification of educational institute enrollment in the form of a letter or statement from the Registrar’s office.

**Timothy J. Mynahan Foundation Scholarship- March 21
A private, non-profit organization established in 1991 in memory of the late Timothy J. Mynahan. He was an active participant in ice hockey and soccer. An intense player on the varsity soccer team, he received post-season accolades as the team’s most outstanding defensive player, and was also selected to the first team All SMAA. Tim graduated from LHS in 1998 as valedictorian of his class. He was a member of the National Honor Society and an officer in the Key Club. He attended The College of the Holy Cross. He was twice the recipient of the Charles A. Dana Scholarship. He was selected as a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society.
The scholarship will be awarded to students who have demonstrated academic, athletics, and leadership abilities. The high school senior must have GPA of 85 or better. Must have participated in at least one varsity sport and participated in other extracurricular activities.
2008 Bob Elliot-WMTW-TV 8 Journalism Scholarship- March 24, 2008
The scholarship awards $1500 to one graduating high school senior within the WMTW-TV 8 viewing area who plans to major in journalism, communications or a related area of study. This scholarship is a one-time-only grant.

Alice Austin & Mary Schuman Scholarship Fun – March 30, 2008
In memory of Alice Austin and Mary Schuman, two sisters born in Leeds, Maine. Both Alice and Mary loved children and believed strongly in the importance of education. This scholarship was established through the last will and testament of Mrs. Georgiana M. Martin, who died in 1997, in honor of their memory. The fund exists to assist Franco-Americans of the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine area who wish to pursue higher education. It is open to all who meet the requirement listed below.

Margaret Chase Smith Essay Contest – April 1, 2008
The rules of the essay contest are minimal. The competition is limited to Maine high school seniors. The essay should be typed and doubled-spaced. There is no minimum or maximum length requirement—quality of evidence, argumentation, and writing is more important than quantity of words.
American Lung Association of Maine Golf Privilege Card Scholarship-April 1, 2008
(3) $500 scholarships are awarded to graduating Maine high school seniors. Scholarships are awarded based on essay question answer, references and review of completed application. All applicants will be notified of their results in mid April.

Maine Family Credit Union – April 1, 2008

Eligibility – Applicant must be a member of Maine Federal Credit Union, graduating high school senior, must be accepted as an incoming freshman to a two-year community college, four-year college or university or technical school and student must begin within one year of the award.
Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program – April 1, 2008
Scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine each year. The focus of the Mitchell Institute always has been, and continues to be, Maine students attending Maine College and Universities. The criteria are academic potential, community service and financial need.
New England District Kiwanis International Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club ($750) April 1,
Fill out scholarship form along with a one-page essay from the applicant about why they need to win, returned along with an official copy of the transcript.
**Trooper Jeffrey S. Parola Foundation Award- April 1
Jeffrey served as a Maine State Trooper for five years. He was a member of the Tactical Team and was in line to become a member of the Bomb Disposal Team. Only days before his death, he received the department’s Award for Bravery. He was a three-sport letter winner at Dexter Regional High School. He captained his varsity soccer team that won two Eastern Maine Championships. Member of the 1985 State Championship Basketball team; selected for the All-State Soccer Team; and awarded a letter on the men’s soccer team at University of Maine-Farmington.
Criteria: Maine resident pursuing a post-secondary education in the field of Law Enforcement, maintain C or above, letter of recommendation, essay 300 words or less on: Why I want to enter the field of Law Enforcement, complete application.

Criteria: High school graduates planning to enroll or students already enrolled full-time at approved secondary vocational technical institutes for the heating trades. Deserving students who will be starting or continuing their education in the fields of Wildlife Conservation, Conservation Law Enforcement, or Forest Mgmt. Two (2) $500 scholarships minimum to encourage and assist young people of Maine to start post high school education in any field; vocational, technical or academic. One for any resident of Maine and one for MEDEA member’s family only. The purpose of this program is to promote the ideas and concept to the youth of our state for law enforcement as a professional career by awarding scholarships to deserving graduating seniors. A student graduating from high school in Androscoggin County who plans to enter the field of Arts and Literature. The amount of the scholarship will be sent to the college bursar after the winner has successfully earned a 2.6 GPA or better for his/her first semester of college work. This scholarship supports graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education. Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association – July 15, 2008
Annual scholarship to deserving women who have participated in some aspect of the game of golf, and are planning to continue their education beyond high school.
