Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year at Lewiston High School. I am looking forward to another year of working with Blue Devil parents and students in our quest to make Lewiston High School the best in the state
Over the summer a number of improvements were made that will provide a safer learning environment for all students. A new floating floor was installed in the gymnasium that will be much kinder to our athletes’ bodies. The old floor was installed directly on concrete so the new floor will be a significant improvement. To provide greater building security and a safer entrance to and exit from school, the traffic pattern on campus has been reconfigured to allow buses greater access to building entrances and to provide parents with drop-off points. For the first time in decades, bus service to and from school will be provided free of charge. Student parking lots have been relocated to the front of the building to make it easier for them to enter the building if they are arriving late due to a doctor’s appointment. A security vestibule has been added to the main lobby and visitors must now ring a bell to be admitted.
Curricular changes are underway as well as we work to graduate all students ready for college, citizenship and work. New learning labs have been added to provide greater support for students who need it. Teachers will soon be receiving laptops and trained to incorporate more technology in their classrooms as we prepare our students for the demands of a technology-based global economy. College-going rates have increased dramatically in the past several years. For the Class of 2007, 86% of graduates plan to continue their education at a postsecondary institution this fall. We have also begun tracking our graduates after graduation to gather information about their persistence and completion of educational plans and the careers they select.
Good communication is a priority if we are to achieve a first class education for our teens. The Lewiston High School web page and especially the LHS Parents Page are key components to maintaining open and frequent communication between home and school. The email addresses for all faculty and staff are available at these sites as well as the Daily Announcements, lists of scholarships, calendar of college admissions interviewers, the Student Handbook, and much more. Do not hesitate to contact me or any other staff member with your concerns and questions so that we can work together to best meet the needs of our students.
As principal of Lewiston High School I am excited about the coming year and look forward to sharing our students’ successes in the classrooms, activities and in athletics with you. Our students make us proud!
Sincerely,

W. Gus LeBlanc
Principal
