Since last February, the carpentry classes at Lewiston Regional Technical Center have been involved in building a home at the corner of Birch and Horton streets in downtown Lewiston. The project has special appeal to the students involved, as it is real, hands-on work.

This project has been a cooperative and joint venture with the City of Lewiston, Coastal Enterprises Incorporated, and LRTC's trade programs as the major partners. After the completion of the framing stage, students in the electrical trade wired the house. Students in the sheet metal and welding program built and installed ductwork for the heating system. Students from the computer assisted drafting/design classes have helped with plans. Now that the exterior siding is installed, next in order is instulation and drywall.

A new housing project, currently in the planning phase, will be located at 32 Spring Street. The Lewiston Planning Board and the Lewiston City Council have approved the project. Construction should begin within the next few weeks.
