"A
Look At LRTC's Graduates Five Years Later"
by:
Dr. Donald C. Cannan, Director
As Part of our accountability
standards, LRTC conducts one, three, and five year follow-ups on
all our graduates. The five-year follow-up is considered the
most important one because graduates are usually "settled in"
to something by then. Most have completed college, internships,
military duty, and/or a combination of these activities. I
am proud to report to you our five-year follow-ups for LRTC's graduating
classes of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 four year compilation.
- on average 70% of
the graduates were contacted
- 51% have earned college
degrees (22% 2-year and 29% 4-year degrees)
- 72% are working full-time
in their related trade area
- 10% part-time employment
and/or college
- 10% are in the military
- 3% homemakers
The fact that 51% of
our graduates completed college and the fact that an astonishing
72% are working in their trade area is a testimonial to LRTC's student
learning experiences. There are many people who question whether
sophomores in high school are ready to make decisions about vocational
technical training...my answer to them is yes...not only do these
sophomores make those decisions but they succeed with their plans.
These five-year follow-ups serve to validate this. Vocational/technical
education in Lewiston has become a vital part of this area's secondary
education experiences.
