Computer Repair (A+ Certification) Program

The Computer Repair (A+ Certification) Program will provide intermediate computer concepts. Emphasis will be placed on basic knowledge and skills needed in the area of installation and configuration of both hardware and software use on personal computers.

• be exposed to the basic design, installation, and maintenance of a personal computer.
• understand how a personal computer works.
• improve the performance of a computer through preventative maintenance.
• acquire efficient computer-related troubleshooting skills
• work on computers, printers, keyboards and other computer hardware
• develop customer service skills in relation to computer industry.
• prepare for the industry validated testing.
• obtain a basic entry level computer job. After passing the industry validated testing

Career Opportunities . . .

Successful completion of the Computer Repair (A+ Certification) curriculum along with passing the industry validated testing allows students to either obtain an entry level position in the computer industry or possibly receive college credit at a number of institutes of higher learning.

Student enrolling in the Computer Repair (A+ Certification) program should . . .

• have good hand-eye coordination
• have the ability to read and understand technical documentation and specifications
• be able to read and comprehend written and verbal directions
• have the ability to work without supervision in a team setting
• demonstrate good attendance
• have the ability to comprehend and demonstrate industry safety standards
• have a reading Lexile measure over 900

Graduation Credits . . .

High school credits awarded for successful completion of the Computer Repair (A+ Certification) Program.

Prerequisites and recommendations for the Computer Repair (A+ Certification) program: Prerequisite – Basic Computer Skills.
Recommendation – Algebra I and Lexile score of 1190

Sophomore year* – 1 block / alternating days
Junior Year – 1 block / alternating days
Senior Year – 1 block / alternating days
- 36 weeks – 1 credit
*preferred students, but will accept others if openings are available
