Parent Survey: Safe Schools/Healthy Students

SS/HS Bullying Presentation on October 27
October 21, 2010In partnership with the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, Safe Havens International, Inc. Executive Director Michael Dorn will deliver one of this keynote presentations for parents, students, staff and the community. The presentation entitled "Weakfish - Bullying through the Eyes of a Child" will be held on October 27, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lewiston Middle School Auditorium. Refreshments will be served from 5:30-6:00 p.m. Find out how you can stop bullying from the world's leading school safety expert, FBI academy graduate and author or 25 books on school safety. This event is being held in conjunction with the National Institute on Drug Abuse's Fact Week which runs from November 8th through 13th. The event is scheduled to take place at the Lewiston Middle School auditorium on Saturday, November 13, starting at 6:00 p.m. The event is open to all Lewiston and Auburn Middle and High School students. Flu Shots Available for All Students
October 19, 2010Lewiston Public Schools again this year will be conducting influenza vaccination clinics in each of the schools. The 2010-11 vaccine provides protection against A1H1N1 (pandemic) influenza virus as well as the other influenza viruses, A1H3N2 and influenza B9 (seasonal flu). The clinic dates are as follows:

TeenScreen Coming to LHS and LMS
September 20, 2010TeenScreen is a nationally recognized mental health screening program developed by Columbia University to identify youth who may be at risk for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or suicide. The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Maine (NAMI Maine) coordinates the TeenScreen Program in Maine. The goal of the TeenScreen Program is to ensure that all parents are offered the opportunity for their children to receive a voluntary mental health checkup through school and community based locations. Voters Approve 2010-11 Budget
May 11, 2010Lewiston voters have approved $51.2 million in education spending following yesterday's 2010-11 budget validation referendum. Voters approved the budget by a 419-76 margin. Visit the Budget page to view the complete budget.

2010-11 Pre-K Registration
April 30, 2010Lewiston Public Schools, in collaboration with Child Development Services (CDS), will have a pre-kindergarten program (4 year old program) at Geiger, Farwell, McMahon, Montello and Longley schools next school year. A series of informational meetings for parents will begin on May 5. Registration will be held from May 17-21, and a lottery to select students for the program will take place on May 28. 2010-11 Kindergarten Registration
April 8, 2010The Lewiston Public Schools Curriculum office has released the Kindergarten Registration and Screening schedule for the 2010-11 schoolyear. Registration will be held for one day at each elementary school during the first week of May. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by October 15, 2010, and must be registered in the school district in which they reside. Click here for the complete registration schedule.

LMS to Hold Sweet Fundraiser
January 19, 2010Chocolat!, a celebration of chocolate decadence is being held at the Green Ladle, Lewiston High School on January 31st, 2010 to benefit Lewiston Middle School student activities. The event will feature area restaurants and confectioners competing for the titles of Chocoholics Dream, Candy is Dandy, and most Decadent Display. Winners will be determined by the combined effort of professional confectioners and event attendees.

Request for Proposal: Safe Schools/Healthy Students
January 7, 2010Lewiston Public Schools, in collaboration with the Auburn School Department, is a recent recipient of a Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative grant and is seeking proposals for contracted services.
Services are needed to deliver adolescent substance abuse treatment in the Lewiston and Auburn school systems, including delivering the Families in Action evidence-based program to middle school students, ages 11-14 and their families.

H1N1 Booster Shot Clinics Scheduled
January 5, 2010H1N1 vaccine booster shot clinics for children 9 and under have been scheduled at all six Lewiston elementary schools. The dates for these clinics are as follows:
Jan 13 AM - Montello, PM - Longley
Jan 14 AM - Geiger, PM - Farwell
Jan 15 AM - McMahon, PM - Martel
