Superintendent Seeks Public Input at Upcoming MeetingsNovember 4, 2011Superintenent Bill Webster has invited Lewiston residents to attend one of two public meetings to learn more about and offer input on the future direction of Lewiston Public Schools.The first meeting will be held on Monday, November 14 at 6:30 PM at the Lewiston Middle School auditorium. The second meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 16 at 6:30 PM at the Lewiston High School Multi-Purpose room. Click here to read the Superintendent's letter to the community.
Montello Teacher RecognizedOctober 21, 2011On Monday, October 17 fifth grade teacher Kelly Johnson was recognized for her work by a team of OfficeMax associates. Andrea Tetzlaff, Business Development Manager, Integrated Solutions and her colleagues presented Mrs. Johnson with a framed award and $1,000.00 of supplies for her classroom.The national program, A Day Made Better, makes similar presentations across the country. Ms. Tetzlaff explained to the audience of one hundred students and Mrs. Johnson's colleagues that teachers spend on average one thousand dollars of their own money annually to support students and programs. The OfficeMax program's motto is, "Working to erase teacher funded classrooms." Mrs. Johnson was nominated by the school's administrative team. In their nomination, the administrators described Mrs. Johnson as a tireless and dedicated teacher who sets high standards for her students and self. Mrs. Johnson's students joined her and together they checked out all the goodies.
Safe Schools/Healthy Students SurveyOctober 12, 2011We value your input and would appreciate your participation in the Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) Survey. Your responses, along with those of other parents, will be used to plan and support activities that make our schools and community safer and more responsive to the needs of students and families in Lewiston and Auburn. The 15-30 minute survey is anonymous, and focuses on student health and school safety. A raffle of a $50 gas card will be drawn on Dec. 15 for anyone completing the survey before that date.Click here to access the Parent Survey. Montello Teacher Kristie Clark Wins Milken AwardApril 29, 2011Congratulations to Kristie Clark, Second Grade Teacher at Montello Elementary School, for winning the Milken Award, the nation's top award for teachers!Kristie Clark has led several literacy initiatives credited with raising student achievement at her school, district and state level. Her students outperformed all other grade levels in writing assessments, and her classroom is a model reading site for the state. She requested all the students with special needs and then all her students made at least one year of growth. The criteria for the selection of outstanding elementary and secondary school teachers, principal and other education professionals as Milken Educators include the following:
Substance Abuse Self-Assessment ToolApril 13, 2011This interactive flyer is designed to give students a chance to self-assess any issues they may have with substance use whether it is their own use or the use of a friend or family member. It is also designed to help raise awareness of a valuable resource available to them; our Safe Schools/Healthy Students funded substance abuse counselors. Information isn't actually submitted anywhere so confidentiality and privacy are completely protected. 2011-12 Pre-K RegistrationApril 7, 2011Lewiston Public Schools will have a pre-kindergarten program (4 year old program) once again next school year. A series of informational meetings for parents will begin on May 3. Registration will be held from May 16-20, and a lottery to select students for the program will take place on May 23 and 25. 2011-12 Kindergarten RegistrationApril 5, 2011The Lewiston Public Schools Curriculum office has released the Kindergarten Registration and Screening schedule for the 2011-12 schoolyear. Registration will be held for one day at each elementary school during the first week of May. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by October 15, 2011, and must be registered in the school district in which they reside. Click here for the complete registration schedule.
