Students in the Human Services Program are prepared to access entry-level positions in residential care facilities, adult day cares, nursing homes, hospitals, home health agencies, group homes and sheltered workshops.

• gain experience working with the elderly as well as developmentally and physically challenged adults

Career Opportunities . . .

Entry-level employment in health care facilities, sheltered workshops, group homes, and other agencies serving the developmentally challenged.

• Characteristics and needs of the elderly and developmentally and physically challenged adults
• Industry vocabulary and abbreviations
• Communication techniques (focusing on various special needs)
• Creating, developing, adapting and leading group and individual activities
• Infection control
• Wheelchair transport
• Direct engagement in residential care
activities program

 



Students enrolling in Human Services Program should . . .

• have good communication skills
• have the ability to work safely
• have a desire and motivation to work with people
• have the ability to understand and maintain confidentiality
• have the ability to work independently as well as on a team
• have the ability to follow dress codes

Note: reading lexile of current textbook is 980 and the occupational materials lexile ranges from 1050 to 1200.
