Pre-Nursing Program

Students in the Pre-Nursing Program will acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required in preparation for post secondary education in the Nursing profession.

• experience what the nursing profession is
and in multiple settings
• learn from a variety of resources
• practice basic patient care techniques and
skills in an on campus laboratory
• receive CPR training in “Health Care
Provider” with AED & First Aid
• develop a comprehensive career portfolio
• Portfolio’s will include experience in writing a resume and a cover letter for potential
employment opportunities in the health care field

Nursing Career Opportunities . . .

Hospitals: Both general care units as well as
specialty units such as Cardiopulmonary, Emergency
medicine, Triage Nursing, Pediatrics, Oncology,
Orthopedics, Urology and many more.

Long-Term Care: Geriatrics and Rehab just to name
a few.

Home Care: Medical/Surgical Nursing, Cardiac
Rehab, Pediatrics, Mental Health, Hospice and more.

Other: Flight Nursing and Traveling Nurse, School Nurse, Corporate Nurse, Clinics, Doctors office
settings and even Insurance Companies as case
managers.

• Have opportunity to job shadow and or supervised internship in a variety of health care settings.

Students enrolled in the Pre-Nursing Program should . . .


• be 16 years of age and a Junior or Senior in high school
• have good mental and physical health
• be able to read and comprehend written and verbal content at 10th grade level with a lexile score of no less than 1000
• have absence of drug/alcohol use
• have good grooming and personal hygiene
• have excellent attendance
• work as a member of a team with little supervision
• have no record of criminal convictions
• have a genuine intererst in people and ability to provide compassionate, non-judgemental care to all types of people
• have reliable transportation
• have the following immunization records:

MMR II
Tetanus (TD) within the past 10 years
Hepatitis B (HBV) series
(3 vacccines total)
• Provide evidence of a negative PPD (tuber-
culosis) test after July 1st
• Provide evidence of positive varicella or
varicella vaccine

Students are required to purchase . . .

Portfolio supplies:
Blue binder (one inch), blue pocket folders
Binder tabs (set of 8), notebook and a small pocket notebook
Floppy disc or CD
Appropriate attire (TBA)
Watch with a second hand
Stethoscope

Graduation Credits . . .

High school credits awarded for successful completion of the program.

Must be 16 to enter the program

- 2 blocks / alternating days

- 36 weeks – 2 credits
