#832203 Accounting I

Description and Major Units of Study
Accounting I is a one semester course designed for students who desire an understanding of financial transactions that occur in all businesses and how they are processed with the application of double-entry accounting. You will learn the steps of the accounting cycle, learn the purpose of financial statements in determining profit or loss, and understand opening, maintaining, and reconciling a checking account. You will be using accounting software programs as well as learning how to do it manually.

Glencoe Accounting, Real-World Applications and Connections, workbooks, demonstration problems and mini practice sets. Also using Peachtree Accounting and Quickbooks Pro Softwares.

Description and Major Units of Study
This course includes a complete review of accounting concepts and principles covered in Accounting I. You will learn payroll systems and taxes, accounting for merchandising businesses, special journals and ledgers, and learn how to adjust and close the books for a business. Accounting software packages are used extensively to learn, reinforce, and apply the concepts covered in this second phase of accounting

Description and Major Units of Study:

Students interested in a career or education in business, this course is a great place to start. This is a highly interactive course on the basics of personal investing. Students explore the workings of major financial markets, create strategies, and monitor personal investments. Students participate in online trading of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds via the Maine Stock Market Game. The course will enhance and reinforce students skill sets in the areas of: finance, language arts, math, and social studies.

Text and Materials: All students will need a three ring binder. Students will use The Wall Street Journal and The Classroom Edition of the Wall Street Journal.

Description and Major Units of Study:
This course is designed to appeal to those students who are interested in law from a business and personal perspective and to those who might want to pursue law as a career. Students will be introduced to law as it affects their daily lives. This subject also includes practical and timely information pertaining to consumer law, computer law, family law, criminal law, constitutional law, and other areas of law. Subject areas related to consumer law and computer law will be especially beneficial for everyone.

832242 Computer Accounting with Quickbooks 2006


Description and Major Units of Study
This course is designed for students who enjoy working with computers and desire to learn Quickbooks Pro 2006, the state-of-the-art accounting software used in many small to medium size companies in the area. The students will learn to use Quickbooks Pro with an abundance of exercises and projects to manage a service and merchandising business. They will learn how to set up a new company’s chart of accounts, customers, vendors, and item lists. They will make deposits, write checks, reconcile a bank statement, create invoices, record sales, record customer payments, record vendor transactions, create purchase orders, pay bills and print reports.

Description and Major Units of Study:

This course introduces students to the world of 2-D animation using Flash and other third party software such as Photoshop CS, Vegas Video, Audition for sound editing, and After Effects. Students will write scripts with storyboards and then animate the story. Projects will include sound effects and voice over when needed. Students will also be responsible for terms used. Different styles of 2-D animation will be studied. When needed students will have access to video camcorders, digital cameras, and a scanner. Creative and artistic abilities are required.

Prerequisites: Basic art skills are a must. Creative and motivated learner. Must be able to work independently.

Software such as Poser, Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, Vegas Video and much more will be used. Students will write scripts with storyboards and then animate the story. Projects will include sound effects and voice over when needed. Students will also be responsible for terms used. Creative and artistic abilities are highly recommended.

Description and Major Units of Study: This course will provide the necessary basic keyboarding and formatting skills that students need for personal use, office use, and for business industry careers requiring the use of keyboards for entering, manipulating, and outputting information. The fundamentals of keyboarding are the same regardless of ultimate use or equipment.

Description and Major Units of Study:

This course is designed for students considering college study in programming. This is a hands-on computer lab course in which students will solve problems by designing, creating, testing, implementing, and analyzing computer programs using a high-level programming language such as Visual Basic, Java or similar commonly-used language. Object oriented programming concepts will be taught. This course is appropriate for students whith no previous programming experience or students who have experience in other programming languages.

A text appropriate to the programming language will be used.

Description and Major Units of Study: This is a one semester course that combines the versatility of page design software such as Adobe Illustrator with word processing and other computer applications. It enables students to produce materials of photo-typed quality.
This course includes page composition, layout, design, editing functions, and a variety of printing functions. Students will use their creative abilities to combine text and graphics to produce a variety of graphic designs. Students will produce different types of documents, greeting cards, magazine advertisements, magazine covers, CD covers, labels and inserts, flyers, brochures, newsletters, business reports, letterhead, newspaper layout, sales advertisements, office publications as well as many other projects.

Designing for Print:
Would you like to learn how to combine text and graphics to create documents such as CD covers, logos, banners, magazine covers, labels, inserts, flyers, brochures, advertisements and many other types of projects similar to these? Then this is the class for you. In this class, you will be exposed to professional publishing software like Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign; you will be provided with project-based instruction that will give you the skills needed for planning and creating effective and interesting publications for business and personal use.

Power Point:
Want to impress your teachers and future employers? Come learn how to use Power Point efffectively, and get certified while doing so. You will master the skills required to create proper presentations, add pictures, animations and sound. Learn how to record your voice as narration to your Power Point, and let your Power Point present itself. You will be introduced to Photoshop to create your own graphics to "jazz" up your presentations. Certification will give you the edge over other job seekers.

This course will present a basic understanding of Macroeconomics with an emphasis on the analytical techniques commonly used in Economics. This is a real-life oriented course that will help students understand and apply the economic perspective and to reason objectively about economics matters. In completing this course, students should have a basic idea of how a national economy operates and is affected by the world economy. The determinants of Gross Domestic Product, unemployment, inflation, productivity, and international trade will be studied.

Did you ever wonder how web pages are made? Would you like to know how to make your own personal web page? In Introduction to Web Page Programming, you will be introduced to HTML. You will learn about tags and their functions, create web pages that have backgrounds, marquees, tables, and frames. Learn how to make links within a page, to a web site, or to another folder, and then learn how to publish a website. You will apply your knowledge and skill by creating basic web pages for personal and school use.

Description and Major Units of Study:
You will be using Microsoft Word to learn the basics of creating, manipulating, formatting, and designing documents for personal, school, and business applications. Students will become proficient at computer usage, software applications, and document processing. Students will also be introduced to Desktop Publishing. Once you have completed Word, you will test your knowledge through Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) testing. Employers are looking for these certifications. Microsoft will test your skills and certify you if you pass their test.
