LRTC_LHS School of Engineering

Instructors: Donald Jalbert and M. Eyup Uygur

The School of Engineering is a three-year program based on the Project Lead the Way curriculum. This curriculum, when combined with college preparatory mathematics and science courses in high school, introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering and engineering technology prior to entering college.

The courses we offer are:

• Principles of Engineering, both Engineering
Graphics and Engineering Systems (10th
grade)
• Introduction to Engineering Design (11th
grade)
• Digital Electronics (11th grade)
• Automation/Robotics (12th grade)
• Computer Integrated Manufacturing (12th
grade)
• Civil Engineering/Architecture (12th
grade)
• Engineering Design and Development (12th grade)

Sophomores entering the program take one block of Engineering Graphics and one block of Engineering Systems.

Junior students have the option of following the path of Engineering Graphics by taking Introduction to Engineering Design or of following the path of Engineering Systems by taking Digital Electronics.

Senior students continue in Engineering Graphics by taking Civil Engineering/Architecture or continue in Engineering Systems by taking Automation/ Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing.

Some senior students will be selected by the instructors for the Engineering Design and Development course; this program allows students to work on teams to research, design and construct solutions to engineering problems.

PLTW graduates are expected to:

• Understand technology as a tool for problem solving
• Be well prepared for the rigorous college
curriculum
• Understand the principles of mathematics
• Demonstrate effective communication of
information and solutions
• Possess the skills necessary to work in
teams effectively

College Credit

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and 14 other National Affiliated colleges and universities administer PLTW.

Students in certified schools who earn an 85 percent grade of higher in their PLTW courses and score 70 percent or higher on the college credit exam are eligible to register for college credit.

Students who choose this option have an RIT or participating National Affiliates transcript available for transfer credit evaluation.
