The courses in this program are:
• Anatomy & Physiology (10th grade)
• Health Science Technology I (11th grade)
• Health Science Technology II (12th grade)
Sophomores entering the program take one block of Human Anatomy & Physiology.
Junior students take two blocks of Health Science Technology I; this provides them with an in-depth curriculum that includes pathophysiology (disease process), professional communication skills, infection control, safety, medical law and ethics, medical terminology, human growth and development, death and dying, nutrition, emergency care and career preparation. Students will also explore a variety of medical careers, practice entry-level skills and develop a comprehensive career portfolio.
Senior students focus on the specific knowledge and skills necessary to pursue an internship or mentorship in the medical community. Students may also create a capstone project or participate with a mentor in a service-learning experience. During senior year, students are encouraged to independently manage their own educational experience with instructor guidance. Portfolio development will continue and will reflect each student's unique knowledge and competencies.
Students completing this program will have the advantage of a rigorous preparation for college, relating core academics to health care/science topics, and integrated “hands-on” learning experiences that enable them to preview their chosen career.
