With this assignment, students are provided with a real-life situation. As it turns out, as we were studying this unit in class, Bowdoin College experienced an "outbreak" of the flu virus. We discussed what they would do in that situation. For example, do they get a flu vaccine, would they pay more attention to sharing drinks, shaking hands, washing hands, etc.. The sample lesson plan also explained to them how easily diseases are transmitted amongst people.

Therefore, my students had to come up with a way to protect their school in case such a situation arose. This allowed students to think on a higher level as they had to develop their own plan. They could not just find answers in a book. I was amazed at how well the students did on this project. Some even came up with very creative ways to present their project to the class, such as in a jeopardy game and playing "germopoly."
