My mission as a teacher is to treat each student that enters my classroom as an individual - to respect where each student is academically and socially. With that information, it is my goal to be sure that each student reaches his or her potential. I will establish an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming. The students will feel safe to take risks and face new challenges.

I believe that we need to challenge all students to use their minds well, providing them with the curriculum, instruction, assessment, support, and time they need to meet rigorous academic standards. They need extra-curricular programs to engage their boundless energy, interests, and curiosity. They also need to understand important concepts, develop essential skills, and apply what they learn to real world problems.

The educational environment should emphasize school-to-career education and post-secondary education. Teachers need to keep their students future options open. I will have high expectations for all of my students and be committed to helping each child produce work of high quality .

As a teacher, I believe that it is extremely important for parents of be aware of what is happening in the classroom. Parents are the childŐs first and most important teachers and their active participation in the home, school and community is vital to education. The school needs to encourage positive family values. I would faster open communication between school and the home. There should be several opportunities throughout the year for the parents to come in the classroom and visit. I will send newsletters home each month stating what activities we did in the classroom.

The community also needs to be an important involvement in education. Bringing together people with diverse talents and backgrounds, many ideas can be explored. Not only will the students be able to provide for and improve their community, but also the community will help prepare students to enter and advance in their careers.

The teachers need to be provided with staff development opportunities to master the technologies and instructional strategies that improve student performance. I, along with my students will be a life long learner. I will attend continuing educational courses in order to enhance my knowledge base.

I will model and promote my knowledge o f the subject matter and academic discipline. This will be linked with effective skills in technology to guide and enhance learning in a student based curriculum. Technology needs to be an important part of the learning process as it continues to change on a daily basis.

Education should be diverse enough for each individual to reach his or her potential as every individual has potential and can learn. Learning must be meaningful to each student. Each student ahs unique needs and learns in multiple ways and I will strive to meet each studentŐs needs. The development of self-esteem and confidence is essential for success.
