"Teachers are members of learning communities."

Parents are the very core of any students' education. Teachers need to build trust and develop a positive relationship with parents. In order to do this, before school starts, I send a letter to all of the parents. This introduces myself to them and to let them know what will be expected in my classroom. That way they know ahead of time and can be prepared. I also inform them of my website. On this website, I list all homework assignments, class work and class notes. That way, they can look and they know what their child should be doing while they are at home. This website also has a link to "PowerSchool." This is where parents can access their child's grades at any time. It also lists the upcoming assignments so they are aware if their child has an upcoming test or homework assignment.

Teachers need to work collaboratively with parents to engage them in the work of the school. Parents have to be involved in their child's education. If work is not being done at home, children will not get the same out of their education. Parents and teachers need to work collaboratively for the child to get the maximum benefit.
