This course is designed to introduce the beginning art student to the major areas of two-dimensional art and to the visual properties behind them. Students will gain insight into the way the human eye works, and how the fine artist can control and manipulate it. Students will leave Drawing and Painting with the desire to create art, and possess the physical skills and the visual criteria necessary to ensure its quality

Text and Materials: Supplies are provided.

Expectations: Drawing and Painting I is a studio course, learning occurs through doing. Attendance is crucial to completing
assignments. Supplies cannot be sent home for students to do their work outside of studio time. Assessment is based largely on studio
performance, the effort put forth and the quality of resulting projects. Students will create drawings and paintings that show
understanding of technique as a vehicle for expressing ideas. Students will increase their vocabulary regarding fine art and be able to express themselves intelligently to demonstrate knowledge. A final examination will take place on the last day of the semester. If students are absent, studio time must be made up either after school or during an available study hall. This can easily be arranged with the instructor.
