What is the Nutrition Center Home To?
The Nutrition Center of Maine is home to the St. Mary's Food Pantry, Lots to Gardens and the Nutrition Center Kitchen. In conjunction with local and state agencies, these programs provide an array of nutrition services for low to moderate-income people. These services include emergency food distribution, community gardening outreach and education, cooking and nutrition classes, clinical nutrition workshops and fitness and exercise classes. The Center also serves as a site for community and nutrition-related events.
The building is a melting pot of cultures, services and individuals, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in addressing hunger, nutrition and social justice issues.
Food Pantry
St. Mary's Food Pantry gives food to those who would otherwise go without. The Food Pantry provides food to 200 families per week.
Lots to Gardens
Lots to Gardens is a youth and community driven organization that uses sustainable urban agriculture to create access to fresh food, and to nurture healthy youth and a healthy community. Since 1999, Lots to Gardens has built fifteen gardens and green-spaces in four diverse neighborhoods in Lewiston.
Nutrition Center Kitchen and Classroom
The Nurition Center Kitchen and Classroom serve as sites for wellness education in nutrition and fitness. The spaces also serve as meeting sites for local, state and federal agencies working in the nutrition related fields.
