LPS Attendance Policy

LPS Truancy Policy

Students benefit from school in many ways beyond academics, including a sense of belonging and the development of curiosity, creativity, and responsibility. How can you help?
  • Create a consistent bedtime and morning routine to help your child start the day feeling ready.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before to make mornings easier.
  • Help keep your child healthy and up to date on required vaccinations.
  • Have a backup plan for getting to school in case something unexpected comes up—such as asking a family member, neighbor, or another parent for help.
  • Try to schedule non-medical appointments and longer trips during school breaks when you can.
  • If your child feels nervous about school, reach out to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for ideas to help your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • If your child needs to stay home due to illness, ask the teacher for resources and ideas to support learning at home.

  3. Building Habits for the Future
    • Consistent attendance helps students develop responsibility, time management, and routines that prepare them for college, careers, and adulthood.

    • Attending school ensures students can access meals, counseling, and other support services that promote overall well-being.
  5. Preventing Learning Gaps
    • Missing school can create gaps in learning that are hard to catch up on, which can affect confidence and long-term academic progress.
