FY 26 BUDGET NEWSLETTER

Hello Lewiston,

We wanted to share some updates with you. We have been working hard to minimize increases on property taxes in Lewiston. Recently, the School Committee approved a 2.15% increase on the mil rate. The straight math on 2.15% is 29 cents for the property taxpayers’ mil rate. Please note that wages and benefits, which account for 71% of the total budget and 95% of the requested increase overall.

The chart below shows each article and what percent of the budget they are.

The proposed budget increases as of April 28th were 50 cents city, 23 cents county, and 29 cents school. The approval process for us is unique. The School Committee and the City Council must approve the school budget for it to go to referendum. You need to vote on MAY 13, 2025. If the budget does not pass we cut more. More cuts do not help staff morale, our kids, staffing, or community. The City budget approval process is the City Council alone. There are no other approvals or referendums for the city portion of the budget.
