Last school year, the 21st Century Leaders program at Lewiston High School received a Teen Trendsetters grant from the Barbara Bush Foundation to work as literacy mentors for younger children at Longley Elementary School! In summer 2014, a group of LMS and LHS leadership students worked to create a book focusing on the positive aspects of living in Lewiston, ME. They took field trips to Mount Davis, the Androscoggin River, Musuem L/A, and the markets on Lisbon Street and researched the history and culture of our city. The L/A Arts' Maine Writes Program is a writing and performance program that gives our students a fun connection to literacy and a chance to make their voices heard through slam poetry. View Hibo's poem on food security, created during our Maine Writes residency.
